Reserve Your table! Home School Day at the Capitol 2011

RESERVE YOUR TABLE NOW for the NORTH DAKOTA HOME SCHOOL DAY AT THE CAPITOL –February 3, 2011 8 AM to 5 PM

The purpose of the 2011 Homeschool Day at the Capitol is for home school families to meet with legislators, both regarding home schooling in general and the 2011 home school bill in particular. We have reserved tables for support groups, families and select home education vendors to help show-and-tell home education. Please reserve your table by emailing office@ndhsa.org with a paragraph on what your display will contain and convey. Vendors will be limited to a just few, whose materials clearly answer a legislator's question on “How those home schoolers do it.” The tables will be provided at no charge, but reserved on a first come and first serve basis. There will be a piano available and home schooled students available to play can sign-up for hours. Email the office@ndhsa.org with your reservations or any questions.

Remembering the Trojan Horse

The crafty Odysseus won the Trojan War for Greece by deception with the Trojan horse. An entire city was desolated by sleight of hand, worship of a false goddess, and false security. The Trojans sincerely thought the war was over, but sincerity is insufficient without the truth. They found out too late that they were wrong. They unknowingly led the enemy right into their city’s heart, blindly trusted the enemy’s word, failed to do their own research and inspection, and became complacent, focused on their own pleasures. Because of these foolish actions, they lost their children, families, city, and lives. America is Troy; our public education system is the Trojan horse.

Why Political Change Is Often So Slow

“One of the things in 1Samuel that I suspect some of you will be able
to identify with is the frustration of how long it took to get King Saul out of
office. Saul was in office for a total of 40 years and his son was in office
over the northern tribes for another 7 ½ years after that. Now the first two
years of Saul’s reign were actually pretty good, but that still makes 45 years
of frustration.”

This articles explains that when people are not ready for liberty, the resulting tyranny can be working together for some good, while God’s people learn to understand God’s view of politics, be loyal to God’s choice in candidates, practice Biblical interposition, not fear the majority, define the arguments Biblically, and more. Who Owns the Family?

An Illinois court has explained parens patriae in the following manner: “It is the unquestionable right and imperative duty of every enlightened government, in its character of parens patriae, to protect and provide for the comfort and well being of such for its citizens. The performance of these duties is justly regarded as one of the most important governmental functions, and all constitutional limitations must be so understood as not to interfere with its proper and legitimate exercise.” County of McLean v. Humphreys (III.1882)

This law gives power to the state to protect and educate all children as it sees fit. It furthermore, gives the state the authority to supersede the God given custodial authority of the parent over the child. Thus, the state has proclaimed itself the legitimate authority and ruler of the family. This declaration is in direct conflict with the Holy Scriptures.

Family Devotions and Training Christian Men to Lead

Family devotions have been a part of our day since before we began home schooling, but as the boys have grown into men, the depth, applications, and intensity of our devotions have been exciting and life changing. For example, we just compared the Calvinist, Hyper-Calvinist and Arminian theological perspectives as a part of our pondering what made the United States a Christian nation, and what it would take for North Dakota to become a Christian state. We learned that Puritan leaders believed that God’s Word applied to all nations because Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. They saw the state deity worship displayed in the Scriptures by the Egyptians, Babylonians, Medo-Persians, and Romans as directly competing with the Lordship of Christ and violating the First Commandment, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” So, to make a long story short, the Puritans understood that since Jesus is King of Kings, then civil government is not free to write laws which go beyond those given by the King of Kings in Scripture.
